If you've been in the Network Marketing business for any length of time, you've probably heard that line before!
"Network Marketing?! My uncle Cleetus tried that back in '77... nothing but a pyramid scheme, if you ask me!"
Or something along those lines, right?
So the question is, "Why do people feel this way?" Surely, something has happened to give people this impression...
My answer? Skewed expectations...
Usually, perpetuated by us Network Marketers!
We would never tell someone that if they go to the gym once, they'll come out 30lbs lighter and completely buff. But, when we talk to people about our opportunity we give them the impression that within weeks they'll be making thousands of dollars.
But the honest-to-goodness truth is... It takes TIME to build a successful business -- doesn't matter what kind of business, either!
Tell that to your potential prospects and business builders and you will be much better off in the long run.
Because you are being a trusted advisor... someone who is "giving it to them straight."
Sure, you can lie to them and paint a "rosy picture"...
But they'll quit the moment times get a little tougher.
Also, help structure the time they do have to build their business. If your new team member only has 5 hours a week to spend on the business, show him what he should be doing in those 5 hours. Whether it is attending a training event, networking, prospecting etc. most individuals who have never been in business for themselves will flounder here and become frustrated. If 5 hours is all you have, make them the best 5 hours you can!
Today, 1 out 3 households in the United States is operating a home based business. This is because it does work, but YOU HAVE TO WORK IT!
